Job Title: Swim Team Head Coach

Department: Recreation

Classification: Seasonal

Salary Range: $16.00-$19.25/Hourly 

IMRF Position: No

Directly Reports To: Recreation Manager – Aquatics and Fitness

DESCRIPTION

The Stingray Bay Swim Team Head Coach is a part time position located at Stingray Bay. The Swim Team Head Coach is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the swim team program, including training sessions, competitions, and the development of swimmers’ skills. The Swim Team Head Coach will play a crucial role in fostering a positive team culture, supporting individual swimmer growth, and maintaining the overall success and reputation of the swim team. The Swim Team Head Coach reports to the Recreation Manager – Aquatics and Fitness.

Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be at least 21. 
  2. Strong knowledge of competitive swimming techniques and training methodologies. 
  3. Must have experience organizing swim meets including swim meet schedule of events, elements of running a timing system and coordinating staff and volunteers.
  4. Must have excellent communication and leadership skills. 
  5. Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district policy and procedures. 
  6. Able to work well with children. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that aligns with the skill levels and goals of swimmers. 
  2. Encourage a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline. 
  3. Coordinate and attend swim meets, ensuring the team is prepared and organized for competitions. 
  4. Analyze race performances and collaborate with swimmers to develop strategies for improvement. 
  5. Maintain clear and effective communication with swimmers, parents and assistant coaches regarding practice schedules, meet information and team updates. 
  6. Address any concerns or inquiries from swimmers or parents in a timely and professional manner. 
  7. Collaborate with the Recreation Manager – Aquatics and Fitness to coordinate practice schedules, facility usage and team logistics. 
  8. Manage team equipment, including swim gear, uniforms, and training aides. 
  9. Stay current with trends and advancements in swim coaching. 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Proper use and storage of equipment and supplies.
  2. Cleaning of equipment / supplies used
  3. Familiar with computer programs necessary to operate efficiently 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

  1. Employee may be exposed to chemicals (cleaning materials).
  2. Employee may be exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen, stand, walk, use hands, sit, stoop or kneel, bend and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  2. Specific vision requirements include, distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  3. Employees are allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 20 lbs. as a guideline. 
  4. Employees must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

  1. Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents. 
  2. Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future.
  3. Employee must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.
  4. Employee will use all required PPE.
  5. All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.
